- Former teacher of languages; fluent in German and French, with Czech added in retirement.
- Returned to teaching as a supply teacher post-retirement, working across Kent including in Pupil Referral Units.
- Became politically active after retirement, standing four times before being elected in North Ward and now Ringlestone.
