Tony Harwood

Tony was born, educated, works and has lived his whole life in Maidstone. His family roots go back many generations in the county town. He is an emergency planner by profession, first with Kent Fire and Rescue and now with KCC. He has had prominent roles with the responses to major incidents within Kent and beyond - including leading the tactical co-ordinating group which oversaw Kent’s COVID response.

He has represented both North and East wards since being elected to the Council in 1989 and has an excellent reputation as a tough and effective local councillor - leading high profile campaigns against fly tipping and abandoned vehicles. Tony was a founder trustee of Vinters Valley Park Trust, and he now chairs the management committees of the River Len and Boxley Warren Nature Reserves.
