When Street lights were turned off between midnight and 5.30am, we received many complaints from residents.
After considerable pressure from Lib Dem Councillors and from residents county wide, Kent County Council has recently secured funding to convert all of its street lights to Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology. LED’s are significantly more efficient than the existing lights. The work will involve changing the lanterns on the existing columns and will start early next year, beginning in residential areas, which will take about fourteen months, followed by the main routes and town centres taking around three years in all. When complete these changes could reduce our current energy costs and carbon emissions by 60%, will be more reliable and will substantially reduce the volume and cost of maintenance needed. When installed it will saving around £5.2m, each year countywide.
