New Tovil Housing Allocations Rejected by Borough Council

New Tovil Housing allocations rejected by Borough Council.

Following strong opposition from local residents, Tovil Parish Council and Lib Dem councillors Clive English and Derek Mortimer the Borough council's strategic planning Committee has unanimously rejected proposals to allocate the former waste tip south of Dean Street and land at Bydew's Place for housing. The Committee took the view that the sites would cause traffic problems, undermine the protection of the countryside, would not deliver the community facilities needed in Tovil and had not been the subject of proper consultation with the local community.

Following the meeting Cllr Derek Mortimer (on right in photo) stated, "If we had accepted the recommendation, this would have allowed the sites to bypass the regulation 18 public consultation process, and move straight to the next stage (regulation 19). These proposed sites are very controversial locally and I could not accept that these should pass directly to regulation 19 without any input from Tovil parish council or local residents when other local sites have. I am very pleased that the committee endorsed my call for removal."
