Maidstone Lib Dems Celebrate Success in Local Elections

We extend our thanks to everyone who voted for us and helped us to achieve these excellent results.

Liberal Democrats pulled off two tremendous wins in the Maidstone Borough elections. Georgia Harvey won Bridge Ward beating the Conservative by 43 votes. Then after several nail biting recounts Emily Fermor won Coxheath by just 1 vote over her Tory rival.

Three other new councillors will be joining the Lib Dem team at the Town Hall - Michelle Hastie in North Ward, Diana Lewins in Allington and Paul Wilby in South Ward.

In the wards that we were defending, Bryan Vizzard (Heath), Martin Cox (East) and Denise Joy (High Street) retained their seats comfortably.

Maidstone Borough Council remains in no overall control with the total number of Lib Dem councillors up from 20 to 22. The Conservatives gained 1 seat but lost 3 so their numbers fell from 25 to 23.

Leader of the Lib Dem group at MBC, Fran Wilson, commented "I am delighted but not surprised as we work extremely hard all the time - not just during the election period.

Maidstone is always a big Lib Dem stronghold.”

Our commiserations and thanks also go to Dave Naghi for his unsuccessful campaign to be the Kent Police Commissioner.
